Meal Planning Tip: Prep Meals One Step at a Time

I’m all about breaking up meal preparation to make it easier to assemble the finished product and feel a whole lot less burdened. Although it might take the same amount of total time, I’m convinced that it’s less time when I break things up. It’s sort of like when I used to get paid once a month instead of twice a month. It was the same amount of money but psychologically I swear it felt like more (which probably had a lot to do with how I was managing my money!).

The other night, my goal was to make a batch of my favorite one pot meal – quinoa southwestern stew. It’s super easy and so simply fantastic. But instead of making it all in one shot, I cooked the quinoa last night. Tonight I sauteed the onion and garlic and added the other ingredients which took minimal time. Because it’s a quick recipe to begin with, my 2-part effort made it seem like a breeze.

The beauty is that with some simple foresight like this, you can easily break your meal prep into some simple steps and feel a whole lot less burdened.

What do you to break things up and make meal planning easier? Do tell — share your thoughts below!

Hi there, thanks for the tips! As a visitor to the site, I enjoy the fresh approach and natural feel to the text. I attend clients who frequently ask ‘how can I fit my healthy meal planning into my busy day?’ Dividing a project into manageable bits is a real help. We all find ourselves faced with the issue of timing around planning, shopping for, cooking and cleaning up our meals, yet by now know that the prepared foods, frozen, canned, etc. are not the best for our health in many cases. Starting out can be a daunting task? But the effort for healthy eating indeed pays off!
